The U. S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday approved the first prescription drug that can treat erectile dysfunction.
The drug, Viagra, was approved by the FDA as a generic drug and will be available in the U. through September 30.
Sildenafil citrate (the generic name is sildenafil citrate) is the active ingredient in the drug Viagra.
However, it's not the only erectile dysfunction drug approved by the agency. A spokesman for the FDA said the agency is reviewing the product and evaluating the safety and efficacy.
Viagra, which was launched in Europe in 2013, is the first generic drug to treat erectile dysfunction. It has been available in the U. since 1998.
The FDA said it was concerned that the drug may cause erectile dysfunction by interfering with blood flow to the penis.

Michael M. Leavitt, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, told the Associated Press that he is not involved in the study.
"I have no idea what it is, but I don't know what it is safe for people to take," Leavitt said.
The FDA said it would take the drug's maker, Pfizer, at least a year to approve a generic version of Viagra, because generic versions are often less expensive.

South Africa's drug maker Pfizer has been given a warning letter by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) that the company's patent on Viagra (sildenafil citrate) could expire, it has said. The letter was sent to Pfizer's website in March.
In a statement, Pfizer said that the company had previously "resolved to update the patent information on Viagra for Viagra to the European Medicines Agency."
The EMA has been "very concerned" by the letter and said that "the current patent expiration date is likely to be delayed."
Pfizer's patent on Viagra expired in 2013 and will still be valid for two years after it is expiring. Viagra was the first of its class of erectile dysfunction drugs to be licensed in the European Union.
